Khon Kaen Villagers Demand Oath of Transparency from Election Commission

Bangkok: Villagers stormed the Election Commission office in Khon Kaen, challenging them to swear an oath that the election would be conducted transparently. The gathering was a response to perceived irregularities and concerns regarding the recent election process.

According to Thai News Agency, villagers from Khon Kaen province, led by Ms. Panisa Uppahad, visited the Khon Kaen Provincial Election Commission office to seek clarification on the transparency and fairness of the election. Ms. Panisa, speaking on behalf of her family and other concerned citizens, expressed doubts about the vote counting process in Constituency 3. She inquired whether a full recount could be conducted and questioned the fairness of the election, seeking assurance on the confidence it provides to the public.

Ms. Panisa called for the Election Commission to deliver a clear explanation to the public about their standards for ensuring a fair election. She emphasized the need for the Election Commission to maintain consistent standards of operation across all provinces to improve efficiency, transparency, and impartiality. These operations, she noted, are funded by taxpayers' money, underscoring the importance of accountability.

Additionally, the Election Commission was urged to consider recounting votes in constituencies where doubts persist among the public. This, Ms. Panisa believes, would help build confidence in the electoral process and strengthen public trust in the democratic system.
