Thawee Confirms Prime Minister’s Sole Authority on Cabinet Reshuffle

Bangkok: Pol. Col. Thawee Sodsong, Minister of Justice and leader of the Prachachat Party, has confirmed that there has been no indication of a forthcoming cabinet reshuffle, emphasizing that such decisions rest solely with the Prime Minister. Thawee expressed his readiness to consider public opinion to enhance the Ministry of Justice’s operations.

According to Thai News Agency, Thawee discussed the outcomes of a public opinion survey which identified the Ministry of Justice as one of the ministries the public wants to see adjusted. He reiterated that the power to reshuffle the cabinet is entirely in the hands of the Prime Minister, who values the input of all governmental parties. Thawee noted that he has not received any coordination regarding this issue. He underscored the importance of considering public sentiment, even if it comes from a single individual, to improve governmental functions.

Thawee acknowledged that he has not yet reviewed the reasons behind the public’s desire for changes within the Ministry, but he stressed the importance of maintaining a clear political objective to foster democracy. The Ministry of Justice aims to ensure justice is people-centric, with a transparent government and active public participation, particularly in crime prevention and resolution. He stated that all individuals, regardless of influence, must abide by the law and that legal processes should consider public sentiment.

When asked about his readiness for a potential transfer or removal, Thawee highlighted that the Prachachat Party has a quota of ministers and that any cabinet adjustments would require discussion within the party’s executive committee, as it operates within a political party framework.

Addressing concerns about the impact of potential adjustments on ongoing cases, Thawee assured that the work being done is clear and that cases, especially significant ones, are handled with scientific precision and expertise. He stressed the importance of honesty, impartiality, and courage in legal proceedings, ensuring that actions are lawful and unbiased.
