The Ministry of Education is saddened by the death of a student who fell ill after participating in a sports activity in Udon Thani.

Oct 15 – ‘Pol. Gen. Phetphun’, Minister of Education, expressed his condolences for the incident in which a Mathayom 6 student in Udon Thani Province died from a chronic disease after participating in an activity in the Local Administrative Organization of Thailand Student Sports Competition, Northeastern Region.

Pol. Gen. Permpoon Chidchob, Minister of Education, said that even though the incident did not occur from any of the affiliated educational institutions, the Ministry of Education, as the agency responsible for education management, would like to express its deepest condolences and offer support to the families of the deceased students. He also reminded affiliated educational institutions nationwide that all activities should be organized based on appropriateness, under safety measures and incident response plans for student protection and assistance operations of the Office of the Basic Education Commission.

Creative activities are admirable, but the physical and mental health of students should a
lso be taken into consideration. Safety in educational institutions has always been emphasized. Students must be safe both inside and outside of school. Some children want to have fun with friends willingly, but are subject to health conditions. If it is found that they have a chronic disease, the teacher must take special care during the activity. Observe symptoms and recommend and find other activities that do not affect health instead to reduce the risk. Importantly, coordination of children’s chronic diseases from parents is very important because it must be recorded as information in case of emergency so that measures can be handled promptly.

Educational institutions are the closest after families. Parents therefore expect their children to be safe. Creating safety for students, both physically and mentally, directly affects the quality of learning according to the policy of ‘Good Learning, Happy Learning’, leading to the development of resources that will grow into an important force of the country in
the future. It is an important duty that must be carried out together. It is not just the matter of the Ministry of Education alone. It requires cooperation from many parties, both other agencies that oversee educational institutions and agencies that are concerned with safety as well. Let’s work together to care for our students to give parents confidence according to the guideline of ‘Holding Hands and Going Together’ to create true safety for students. -416-Thai News Agency
