Tornado Devastates Brazilian City While High Waves Claim Lives in Spain

Rio bonito do iguazu: A powerful tornado ripped through Brazil, destroying entire cities, killing six people and injuring hundreds, while in Spain a high wave hit a popular resort island, killing three people. A powerful tornado ripped through Rio Bonito do Iguazu in the southern Brazilian state of Paran¡ on Friday. Local officials said six people were killed and more than 750 injured, with at least 10 requiring surgery and nine others in serious condition. More than 90 percent of the city’s homes were destroyed. Authorities are scrambling to clean up the rubble to restore normalcy, assess the damage and provide financial assistance to residents and businesses. The tornado had winds of up to 250 kilometers per hour, according to the state Environmental Protection Agency. The disaster left more than 1,000 people homeless, and authorities set up emergency shelters in nearby towns to provide assistance.

According to Thai News Agency, in Spain, high waves hit the popular resort island of Tenerife, killing three people and injuring 15. The three deaths occurred in separate incidents. The first victim was a man who was swept overboard by strong waves at La Guancha beach in the north of the island. He was taken to a hospital by a rescue helicopter, but died before reaching medical attention. At El Cabezo beach in the south of the island, a man was found swept overboard by strong waves but rescuers were unable to revive him. Another person, a woman, died of a heart attack after being swept overboard by a 3-meter wave at Puerto de la Cruz in the north of Tenerife along with 10 others, three of whom are in critical condition.
