Trump Criticizes Denmark Over Greenland Defense Capability

Miami: U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Monday that the issue of Greenland's sovereignty will be brought up at this week's World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. He emphasized that Denmark lacks the capacity to adequately protect Greenland.

According to Thai News Agency, President Trump, speaking to reporters in Florida before returning to Washington, D.C., expressed that the United States needed to consider occupying Greenland. He mentioned that, although the Danish leader is a good person, Denmark is incapable of defending the territory and has seldom visited it.

In response, the Danish military announced that Danish troops had been deployed to Kangerlussuaq, west of Greenland, on Monday as part of the Arctic Endurance exercise. However, President Trump dismissed this as a genuine military movement.

President Trump further argued that, despite Denmark's claim that troop deployment is intended to counter Russian threats, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has been warning Denmark for more than 20-25 years about threats from Russia and China's growing influence in the Arctic. He asserted that the current situation indicates Denmark's inability to manage these threats independently.
