Washington: President Donald Trump signed a spending bill to end the partial government shutdown and give lawmakers time to negotiate on demands for stricter immigration law enforcement measures following last month's deaths of two American citizens in Minneapolis by federal agents. This law allows various agencies to have their operating budgets restored and extends the temporary funding allocation to the Department of Homeland Security until February 13.
According to Thai News Agency, the deal passed the Senate with overwhelming bipartisan support last week and narrowly ratified the House of Representatives with a vote of 217 to 214 on Tuesday morning. The previous government shutdown, the longest on record at 43 days in October and November, caused $11 billion (approximately 300 billion baht) in damage to the U.S. economy.
