Typhoon Kalmaegi Set to Impact Ubon Ratchathani with Heavy Rainfall

Ubon ratchathani: Urgent warnings have been issued as Typhoon Kalmaegi is anticipated to strike Ubon Ratchathani on November 7th, bringing significant weather changes to Northeastern Thailand.

According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Sukanya Yawinchan, the Director-General of the Meteorological Department, detailed the storm’s trajectory at 10:00 a.m. on November 6, 2025. The typhoon, located in the South China Sea, is advancing with maximum wind speeds of 120 km/h in a westerly direction. It is forecasted to make landfall in central Vietnam between November 6 and 7, 2025, subsequently weakening and reaching Ubon Ratchathani Province on the evening of November 7, 2025.

The storm’s influence is expected to cause increased rainfall across Thailand’s North, Northeast, Central, and East regions. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted in areas such as Ubon Ratchathani, Amnat Charoen, Maha Sarakham, Roi Et, Yasothon, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, and Sisaket, especially in the lower Northeast. On November 7th, as the storm weakens into a depression, the lower northeastern region could experience accumulated rainfall exceeding 150 mm. The rain will spread to the eastern, central, and northern regions on November 8th and 9th.

The southern region will face indirect effects, with heavy rain expected from Phang Nga province downwards, including Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang, and Satun. Strong winds and waves are anticipated, with waves reaching approximately 2-3 meters high and up to 4 meters in some areas.

Dr. Yawinchan also noted that three storms have historically passed through the lower Northeastern region in early November during La Ni±a years. A new cold air mass is predicted to spread around November 13th and 14th, lasting until November 19th, leading to a temperature drop of 2-4 degrees Celsius in the morning, particularly in the upper Northeastern and Northern regions. Minimum temperatures might fall to 15-19 degrees Celsius in some areas.
