Urgent Measures Proposed for Flood Relief in Bangkok’s Rom Klao and Lat Krabang

Bangkok:Dr. Ae has put forward a proposal urging the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to take swift action to alleviate the flooding crisis affecting the Rom Klao and Lat Krabang communities. The proposed measures include pumping water from the affected areas, draining the main canals, and addressing stagnant and polluted water issues.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Suchatvee Suwansawat, the former Rector of King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang and leader of the Thai Kao Mai Party, has revealed that he and his family were among those impacted by the flooding, necessitating their evacuation from Ladkrabang. He has suggested three urgent solutions to the BMA to mitigate the flooding problems.

The first proposal emphasizes the need for the immediate mobilization of water pumps of all types, both electric and fuel-powered, to drain water from the community areas and assist those still trapped in their homes. Mr. Suchatchavee highlighted that while pumping from roads is essential, the community areas are at lower levels and require more urgent attention.

Secondly, Mr. Suchatchawee pointed out the importance of expediting the drainage of main canals, such as Khlong Prawet Buriram, and managing the sluice gates near Lat Krabang Hospital and Wat Krathum Suea Pla to increase storage capacity and reduce water levels. He also called for transparency in water management and pumping operations to allow experts to analyze and propose further solutions.

Finally, Mr. Suchatchavee stressed the necessity of addressing stagnant and polluted water to prevent health risks. He recommended public health measures to mitigate disease risks from floodwater exposure and suggested the use of solar-powered pumps for areas with stagnant water to improve sanitation.

Mr. Suchatchavee concluded by expressing his support and encouragement to those affected by the floods and acknowledged the efforts of officials and parties involved in relief activities.
