Bangkok: The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior has issued an urgent directive to the governors of five southern border provinces to elevate their security protocols to the highest level. This action aims to tighten control in high-risk areas, restore essential services, and integrate administrative and security forces for proactive intelligence operations, with a mandate for 24-hour monitoring of the situation.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Arsit Sampanrat, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, disclosed that recent unrest in the southern border provinces of Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala, Songkhla, and Satun directly impacted the safety of residents and the integrity of government buildings crucial for national security and administration. In response, Mr. Sampanrat has instructed the governors of these provinces to elevate vigilance and enhance the readiness of administrative mechanisms. The collaborative operations are designed to prevent escalation and ensure the safety of local populations.
The directive outlines four key measures: First, security measures are to be strengthened by integrating forces from administrative officials, police, military, and security agencies. This includes deploying patrols, establishing checkpoints, and monitoring strategic locations, especially during nighttime hours and high-risk periods.
Second, intelligence gathering is to be intensified, with close monitoring and continuous assessment of the situation to ensure public safety. Urgent measures are required if suspicious activities or objects are detected, with immediate contact to explosive ordnance disposal units or other authorized agencies. Public awareness and cooperation are also emphasized to avoid panic and misinformation.
Third, the restoration and maintenance of infrastructure systems, including communication, power distribution, and CCTV, are prioritized. Coordination with relevant authorities is required to repair and secure these systems swiftly, ensuring they function as essential security tools.
Lastly, local officials are tasked with round-the-clock monitoring of developments. Any incidents affecting public order must be reported to provincial governors immediately. Continuous analysis of intelligence information will guide proactive measures to prevent future violent incidents.
