Bangkok: Removed was a multimedia installation by a Tibetan artist, and the words Hong Kong, Tibet and Uyghur redacted along with artists’ names. According to Radio Free Asia, the Bangkok Arts and Cultural Center faced demands to alter multiple works by artists in exile, highlighting Beijing’s influence overseas. This move is considered by the artists as another attempt by China to silence its critics globally.
Earlier this year, Thailand repatriated 40 Uyghurs to China despite warnings from U.N. experts about the potential risks of torture, ill-treatment, and irreparable harm they could face upon their return.
