Phang nga: Villagers in the Thong Lang area are voicing their opposition to plans for blasting mountains to establish a stone quarry. The proposed project, which spans approximately 300 rai (around 40 hectares), has become a contentious issue in the region, pitting large corporations against the local community's way of life.
According to Thai News Agency, the application for a granite quarrying concession is under scrutiny, with questions arising about the transparency of the process. Villagers have raised concerns about the initial land surveying procedures, which they believe were conducted irregularly. This has led to growing resistance from the local population, who fear the impact on their environment and livelihoods.
