Villagers Protest Temporary Border Marking Between Thailand and Cambodia

Sa kaeo: Almost a mess when pinning the land. Villagers encroached on the rice fields. Temporary pin placement causes some chaos as villagers protest as pins encroach on rice paddies. The provincial deputy governor explains that the operation was merely to find the drone’s location.

According to Thai News Agency, the temporary border marking between Thailand and Cambodia has encountered a minor problem today. Villagers from Non Mak Mun, Ban Khok Sung, and Ban Nong Ya Kaeo have joined together to protest and oppose the temporary marking at boundary marker 43, along the red line claimed by Cambodia. The villagers reasoned that the markings had been placed farther into their rice fields than had been realistically reported, and thus they are dissatisfied with the actions of the officials who placed the markings and have stopped them from proceeding.

Later, the Deputy Governor of Sa Kaeo Province, who was part of the temporary pin-planting team, came to discuss the process with the villagers. He explained that the process was merely a drone coordinate retrieval and did not involve the temporary pin-planting. The villagers then dispersed to return home, allowing officials to continue their drone surveys.
