Bangkok: The National Water Resources Management Committee (NWRC) has issued a warning to 17 provinces about the risk of flash floods, torrential rains, and landslides from August 29 to September 2. They have urged local authorities to monitor major rivers and their tributaries for potential overflow.

According to Thai News Agency, the National Water Resources Office (NWRO) has emphasized the need for vigilance regarding flooding, flash floods, and overflowing rivers during this period. The increased risk is attributed to the influence of a strong low-pressure system combined with the southwest monsoon, resulting in increased rainfall, and heavy to very heavy rain in specific areas of Thailand. The regions most affected include the upper northern, upper northeastern, and eastern parts.

The areas deemed at risk of flash floods, mudslides, and landslides include 9 provinces in the North, 5 provinces in the Northeast, and 3 provinces in the West and East, specifically Kanchanaburi, Chanthaburi, and Trat. Authorities are on high alert for any potential flooding of major rivers and their tributaries, including the Yuam River, Kok River, Nan River, Moei River, Yom River, Khwae Noi River, Phia River, and Yang River.

Relevant agencies have been urged to diligently monitor the situation, particularly in areas with accumulated rainfall exceeding 90 millimeters in 24 hours and regions prone to flooding. Preparations for assistance, dissemination of information, and issuing advance warnings are necessary to ensure residents in potentially affected areas can prepare for evacuation if necessary.
