Hat yai: The Provincial Waterworks Authority announced today that the water supply in Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province, has been increased to 80%, with expectations to reach full capacity by Wednesday. Meanwhile, flooding in Phatthalung Province has subsided following a halt in rainfall, allowing residents who had evacuated to temporary shelters to begin returning to their homes.
According to Thai News Agency, the Provincial Waterworks Authority reported an increase in water distribution to 80% for Hat Yai District, up from the previous day’s 60%. The distribution efforts will commence in Songkhla City, prioritizing Songkhla Hospital as the first recipient. The authority plans to achieve 100% water distribution in Hat Yai District and the larger Songkhla Province by December 3rd.
In areas where water distribution has resumed, numerous broken pipes have been reported. Repair teams are on standby to address these issues, as some lines still experience insufficient water pressure. Water trucks from various agencies are assisting areas still lacking water supply, and shelter centers are adequately stocked with drinking and tap water. Currently, Songkhla Province is equipped with 18 water trucks from the Provincial Waterworks Authority and 25 from other agencies, totaling 43.
In Phatthalung Province, the flood situation has shown signs of improvement after four consecutive days of rain. Water levels are receding, particularly in low-lying areas along Songkhla Lake, affecting five districts, including the severely impacted Pak Phayun District. Consequently, villagers who had been residing in temporary tents along the road for nearly 10 days have begun returning home to clean and restore their properties. It is anticipated that if the weather remains dry, most lakeside villages will return to normal conditions soon.
