Bangkok: A woman has filed a complaint on the "Saimai Must Survive" Facebook page after undergoing a liposuction and abdominal muscle sculpting procedure at a well-known clinic in the Ladprao area, costing her 70,000 baht. She reported that her abdomen was left scarred and misshapen, and the clinic has since refused further care or communication.
According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Ya-apa Nasunee, a medical specialist, explained that the "11-line" abdominal contouring procedure involves liposuction combined with creating definition in the abdominal muscles. She emphasized that the results are not immediate, taking anywhere from 2 to 6 months to become noticeable due to initial swelling and inflammation. The procedure is typically sought by individuals who cannot reduce localized fat through exercise or postpartum mothers with sagging abdominal skin.
Dr. Ya-apa detailed that creating an 11-groove is a complex process, relying on the physician's expertise, suitable equipment, and the patient's unique physical characteristics. A standardized approach cannot be applied due to differences in muscle and skin properties among individuals. She also highlighted potential complications such as infection, burns, and excessive scarring, which could lead to skin distortion.
The doctor warned that those with underlying health conditions might experience slower recovery, making regular follow-up appointments crucial. She also addressed the risks of serious complications during liposuction, particularly when performed on individuals with a history of abdominal surgery. The chance of life-threatening complications from "11th groove" liposuction is low, but issues such as allergic reactions, blood clots, or anesthesia-related complications could occur.
