Youth Targeted in Rare Pok©mon Card Scam, Losses Surpass 5 Million Baht

Bangkok: The toxic effects of rare trading cards have victimized youths, resulting in losses exceeding 5 million baht. A group of young victims filed a complaint with the Economic Crime Police after being lured into ordering and investing in rare Pok©mon cards from overseas. One of them, an 11-year-old, ordered a rare Pok©mon card worth over 1 million baht. Not only did they not receive the cards, but they were also unable to contact the seller, were blocked, and the seller's Facebook page was shut down.

According to Thai News Agency, the fraudulent activity has raised concerns among parents and authorities, as the victims, primarily youths, were targeted through social media platforms. These scammers enticed the young buyers with promises of valuable and hard-to-find trading cards, exploiting their enthusiasm and passion for collecting.

The Economic Crime Police are currently investigating the matter, urging any other potential victims to come forward. Authorities are also working to track down the perpetrators and dismantle their online operations. In the meantime, they are advising the public to exercise caution when purchasing goods online, especially when dealing with high-value items that are not verified by reputable sources.
