1st Army Region Condemns Cambodian Rocket Attack on Thai Civilians

Sa kaeo: The First Army Region has issued a condemnation of Cambodia’s recent firing of BM-21 rockets into civilian areas in Ban Khlong Phaeng, located on the border of Sa Kaeo Province, Thailand. The attack, which took place this morning, is being described as a potential violation of human rights and international humanitarian law.

According to Thai News Agency, Cambodian forces launched 40 BM-21 rockets targeting civilian areas in Ban Khlong Phaeng, Ta Phraya District. The assault resulted in extensive damage to homes, infrastructure, agricultural land, and village roads, all of which are unrelated to military operations. The incident highlights Cambodia’s apparent unwillingness to resolve the ongoing conflict and its deliberate breach of human rights and international humanitarian law, causing significant harm to the lives and properties of innocent civilians.

In a related development, the 1st Army Area Command, through the 19th Military District, conducted a ceremony to repatriate the body of Private Thanapat Nanthawong. The soldier, who served in the 3rd Infantry Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, Royal Guard, lost his life on December 23, 2025, while performing his duty to protect national sovereignty along the Thai-Cambodian border in Ban Nong Chan, Khok Sung District. The ceremony was held with full honors at Air Force Base 3, Watthana Nakhon, presided over by Major General Thanat Poonnayom, Commander of the 19th Military District. The solemn event was attended by Mr. Prinya Pothisat, Governor of Sa Kaeo Province, along with heads of government departments, military and police personnel, and other relevant agencies, who gathered to pay their respects and bid farewell to the brave soldier.
