Bangkok: “Suriya” guarantees the policy of “20 baht electric train all routes” will be opened for all colors – all routes, total 8 routes, D-day is September 30, 68, preparing to open registration to confirm identity via the “State Road” application this August, paying for travel via the fare card of each route, confirming that it is not difficult – not complicated, ready to accelerate the upgrade of the payment system via QR Code, no need to carry the card within 69, convenient – economical – safe travel.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Suriya Juangroongruangkit, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, revealed the policy of 20 baht flat-rate fares for all electric train lines, saying that currently, two electric train projects are being implemented: the Purple Line, Tao Poon-Khlong Bang Phai section, and the Red Line, Bang Sue-Rangsit and Bang Sue-Taling Chan sections, with the objective of reducing the cost of living for the people. The results of implementing this policy have been very well-received by the people, as reflected by the data in the past showing the highest number of users (new high) since the service began.

For the policy of 20 baht flat fare for other electric train routes, including the Green Line, Gold Line, Yellow Line, Pink Line, Blue Line, and Airport Rail Link, it was confirmed that it will be announced on 30 September 2025 onwards as previously scheduled, which will result in the implementation of the said policy for a total of 8 routes. In the first phase, only those with a 13-digit Thai national ID card number will be eligible for the 20 baht flat fare and must register via the ‘Tang Rath’ application, which is expected to open for registration in August 2025. However, it was confirmed that the registration will not be complicated and easy to facilitate the people.

The registration for the 20-baht flat-rate electric train fare measure via the government application is to verify your identity and to allow the system to clear travel expenses across lines between each service provider. That is, if you are going to use the Blue Line and Airport Rail Link, you can pay the fare via the MRT Plus card and EMV card. As for the Green Line, Gold Line, Yellow Line, and Pink Line, you must pay the fare via the Rabbit card. No matter how many lines you use or cross all lines, the fare will be only 20 baht.

Mr. Suriya continued that the current fare cards, in the initial phase of the policy implementation, passengers can still use their existing fare cards, but must register those cards via the government application first to receive the 20-baht all-line privilege. As for the development in the second phase (Phase 2), it is expected that by 2026, there will be a change to a scanning system to pay for the 20-baht all-line train fare via the QR Code channel on mobile phones, which will make it unnecessary to use fare cards in the future.

While compensation for private operators is estimated to cost around 8 billion baht per year, the revenue from the Blue Line project or the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) fund, which currently stands at around 16 billion baht, will be used to compensate for the revenue under the implementation of the Joint Ticket Management Act B.E. … through the establishment of the Joint Ticket Promotion Fund, which is currently in the process of proposing a secondary law announcement within September 2025 for sure.

However, from the trend of the number of passengers who accepted the policy of 20 baht for the entire electric train line, it is considered a good sign that the government and the Ministry of Transport have helped reduce the cost of living for the people. It also encourages them to use more public transportation, reduce the use of personal cars, which is another factor in helping to reduce the PM2.5 dust problem and create equal travel opportunities for all groups of people.
