Krabi: Abhisit Vejjajiva sought votes from the people of Krabi, championing "honest politics" to combat illicit capital and resolve the economic crisis, while also pushing for a universal 1,000 baht allowance for senior citizens.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva, leader of the Democrat Party, along with his delegation, visited Krabi province to meet with the people and campaign for the Democrat Party. They were warmly welcomed by a large number of supporters who came to listen to his speeches.
Mr. Abhisit emphasized the long-standing relationship with the people of Krabi, who had fought alongside him in political struggles for decades. He stated that corruption has plagued Thailand for many years, impacting the nation's economy, which has seen stagnant growth over the past 10 years, allowing neighboring countries to surpass Thailand. He stressed that if Thailand wants to change, it must start with restoring "honesty" in Thai politics.
"Almost every problem boils down to our lack of seriousness in combating corruption," Mr. Abhisit said.
Regarding economic policy, Mr. Abhisit proposed a proactive approach for the people of Krabi as follows:
The Democrat Party will push for systemic legislation regarding the palm oil industry to improve quality standards for better export performance, building upon the party's successful income guarantee policy.
Regarding tourism, efforts will be accelerated to restore confidence among tourists, especially Chinese tourists who are concerned about "grey money" and scammer gangs, which are hindering their return after COVID-19. Mr. Abhisit emphasized that the government must crack down on these issues seriously in order to restore Thailand's image of safety.
Furthermore, Mr. Abhisit announced the continuation of social welfare initiatives started by the Democrat Party, such as education. He affirmed that the free education policy must be truly free, by eliminating hidden costs that burden parents.
Regarding the elderly allowance, the Democrat Party has a policy of providing a universal allowance of 1,000 baht to improve the quality of life for senior citizens beyond its current level.
Mr. Abhisit also invited the people of Krabi to join together in building honest and strong politics on February 8th, in order to bring the economy of Krabi province and Thailand back to stable progress once again.
