Akita Dogs Lead the Way in Boosting Winter Tourism

Akita: Akita dogs are promoting tourism as the city of Akita, Japan, held a dog walking event in the snow to promote winter tourism. While many areas in northern Japan and along the Sea of Japan coast are facing prolonged heavy snowfall that has lasted for more than a week, the Akita City Tourism Promotion Office in Akita Prefecture, northern Japan, organized a special winter park tour to promote tourism. Limited to only eight groups, the tour proved highly popular, selling out immediately after tickets went on sale in late November.

According to Thai News Agency, the Akita city tour begins with a presentation about the Akita breed, a local dog breed. This is followed by a guided walk along a 600-meter snow-covered trail led by an Akita dog. This activity has been very well received by tourists. Some said they fell in love with Akita dogs the moment they saw photos and videos of them on social media during the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, the snow-covered landscape is breathtaking, making it a truly memorable experience.

Sasaki Katsuya, an official from the Akita City Tourism Promotion Office, said with confidence that if interesting activities are organized, it will help attract tourists to visit Akita during the winter. The Tourism Promotion Office intends to organize activities to further promote Akita's unique attractions.
