Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul, leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, has appointed a team to study and prepare for a referendum on constitutional amendments. Amending the 2017 Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand is a primary objective for the Bhumjaithai Party, which aims to draft a new constitution in compliance with the Constitutional Court’s ruling.
According to Thai News Agency, Anutin has established a working group to facilitate the preparation for a public referendum on the constitutional amendments. The group is tasked with ensuring that the Bhumjaithai Party adheres to the legal framework set by the 2017 Constitution and the Constitutional Court’s ruling. The appointed members of the working group include Mr. Chaichanok Chidchob as the leader, Mr. Paradorn Prisananantakul as deputy leader, and several others, including Mr. Siriphong Angkasakulkiat, Mr. Worasit Liangprasit, Ms. Pimrueda Tanjararak, and Mr. Thanis Sriprathet, who will also serve as the secretary.
The working group is empowered to study the referendum process as outlined in the Constitution, the Referendum Act, and the Constitutional Court’s decision, all aimed at facilitating the drafting of a new constitution. Their responsibilities include providing detailed procedures and drafting a timeline for each step necessary for constitutional amendments. The working group is also tasked with considering amendments that would enable Parliament to draft a new constitution. Their findings and proposals are to be submitted to the executive committee of the Bhumjaithai Party for prompt consideration.
Additionally, the group is responsible for managing any issues or obstacles that arise during the process, with a directive to report unresolved matters to the party leader immediately.
