Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul has firmly denied making any claims about winning 200 seats in the upcoming parliamentary elections, emphasizing his commitment to political etiquette and allowing the party with the majority vote to lead the government formation. He stressed that the election outcome rests on the people's decision in the February 8 election.
According to Thai News Agency, Anutin, who serves as both Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, clarified that his focus remains on accelerating campaign efforts for candidates across the country, rather than projecting any specific number of seats. He mentioned that discussions about forming alliances with other parties would only be relevant after the election results are declared. He reiterated the importance of adhering to democratic principles, stating that the party with the most votes should have the first opportunity to form a coalition. If the leading party fails to secure a majority, the opportunity should extend to the second and third-ranked parties, following established parliamentary protocols.
Anutin also highlighted that if the Bhumjaithai Party does not emerge as the leading party, it is crucial that any coalition formed genuinely respects and implements the party's policies. He praised the signing of Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) and Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) agreements as they provide clear guidelines and help avoid political instability that can arise from verbal agreements.
He further indicated that discussions about forming government coalitions should wait until the election results are finalized, respecting the voters' decisions. Anutin also refrained from disclosing any preferences for potential coalition partners, humorously sidestepping the question by saying, "Let me change my shirt first."
