Bangkok: Bangchak is piloting a "Fry to Fly - 2 liters for 1 liter" program, exchanging cooking oil for vehicle fuel.
According to Thai News Agency, Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited has introduced a pilot initiative named 'Fry to Fly - 2 Liters for 1 Liter.' This project, operating under the concept of 'Cooking Oil for Car Fuel,' encourages the public to trade 2 liters of used cooking oil for 1 liter of vehicle fuel. The exchange can be made instantly at selected Bangchak service stations located in Bangkok and the surrounding areas from April 6th to 30th.
The initiative aims to reduce consumer expenses by expanding on the Fry to Fly project, which initially focused on collecting used cooking oil for the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). By allowing consumers to exchange household used cooking oil for diesel or gasoline (limited to regular grades and excluding premium), the project makes sustainable practices more accessible. The program stipulates a maximum exchange of 20 liters of used cooking oil per person, with an exchange rate set at 1 kilogram of used cooking oil equivalent to 1 liter for simplicity.
This pilot program represents one of Bangchak's efforts to provide consumer support amidst the Middle East conflict. Fifteen Bangchak gas stations are participating in the project.
