Bangkok Authorities Conduct Comprehensive Security Inspections in Ekkamai Pubs

Bangkok: Authorities have conducted a series of raids on pubs in the Ekkamai area as part of an initiative to enhance security measures within entertainment venues. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is spearheading efforts to ensure the safety of patrons by inspecting vital safety systems including electrical setups, emergency lighting, fire extinguishing equipment, and fire escape signage. Officials stressed the importance of maintaining clear and accessible fire escape routes at all times.

According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Gen. Adisorn Ngamjitsukhsri, Advisor to the Governor of Bangkok, led a team comprising Mr. Sittichai Aranyakanon, Assistant Secretary to the Governor of Bangkok, and Ms. Pimchutha Sakunsitthada, Director of Watthana District, along with local police and other executives, in a comprehensive inspection of businesses in the Watthana District. This action aims at ensuring strict compliance with laws and safety standards, thereby boosting confidence among both residents and tourists, enhancing safety measures, and reinforcing law enforcement.

The inspections were thorough, emphasizing proactive safety checks. Essential systems such as electrical setups, emergency lighting, and fire safety equipment were scrutinized to confirm their operational status. Officials stressed that fire escape routes should remain unobstructed and unlocked, and that establishments should not exceed their capacity limits. The inspections also included evaluations of building safety under the Building Control Act B.E. 2522 (1979), as well as compliance with the Tobacco Products Control Act B.E. 2560 (2017) and the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act B.E. 2551 (2008) to minimize risks.

Several establishments were found to have deficiencies, prompting the district office to advise operators to rectify these issues. Business operators have been given a deadline to comply with safety standards, with a follow-up inspection scheduled within 30 days to ensure compliance.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has called for strict law enforcement across all sectors to curb violations, reduce fire risks, and enhance safety standards. The BMA encourages public participation through the Traffy Fondue system, enabling residents to report high-risk establishments confidentially. This initiative aims to protect informants' identities while enhancing overall public safety and confidence.
