Bangkok: The Bus Terminal Authority (BTA) reports that passenger numbers on January 3, 2026, exceeded 120,000, marking a significant return of travelers to Bangkok after the New Year festivities. The BTA advises passengers to utilize shuttle buses and regular buses for further travel from Mochit 2 Bus Terminal.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Atthawit Rakchamroon, Managing Director of the Transport Company Limited (BKS), provided insights into the return journey statistics. On January 3, 2026, a total of 69,359 passengers returned to Bangkok, while 51,308 passengers departed the city, culminating in a total of 120,667 travelers. A combined 7,367 trips were executed using BKS and partner buses, ensuring no passengers were left stranded.
During the early morning hours from 5:00 AM to 8:00 AM, a noticeable shortage of taxis was observed due to the high number of passengers. The BTA recommends the use of a complimentary shuttle bus service operating from Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal to BTS Mo Chit and Bangkok Central Station (Gate 2). This service is available from 3:00 AM to 7:00 AM to facilitate connections and ease congestion. Additionally, the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) offers services on 15 routes from Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal, providing passengers with various travel options.
Efforts have been made to coordinate with SWP 91 and JS 100 to inform taxi services to commence operations at Mochit 2 Bus Terminal from 4:00 AM. Enhanced taxi queuing systems have been implemented to improve service efficiency and reduce congestion, with personnel available to assist passengers returning from provincial areas.
Today, January 4, 2026, the influx of travelers continues, with an estimated 120,000 people expected to utilize over 6,000 bus trips, both government and privately operated, to and from the city.
