Bangkok: A candidate for Member of Parliament in Bangkok's District 33 from a prominent party has firmly denied any involvement with a drug trafficking network. The candidate admitted to being a director of one of four companies implicated in the network and issued an apology to the People's Party and his party. He also expressed doubt about his future in politics.
According to Thai News Agency, narcotics police officers have taken the candidate, who is a suspect on an arrest warrant for money laundering related to the drug network, to have his fingerprints taken. During his brief interaction with reporters, the candidate, appearing fatigued, wore glasses and a face mask. He denied receiving monthly payments and claimed no involvement or knowledge of the drug network, despite admitting to his role as a director in one of the linked companies.
He reiterated his apology to the People's Party and the party itself, acknowledging his lack of awareness regarding the incident's facts and admitting to a policy violation. The candidate disclosed that his return to politics is uncertain and mentioned that they would further discuss the legal case.
