Bangkok: Bangkok Thonburi University organized an academic seminar focused on trade and tariff policies between Thailand and Indonesia.
According to Thai News Agency, the seminar was held on January 23, 2026, in collaboration with Hayid Hassim University. It featured Mr. Theppratanporn Thongklang, Public Prosecutor for Rights Protection, Legal Assistance and Enforcement in Rayong Province, as a special lecturer. Police Major General Teep Ransaranoy, Dean of the Faculty of Law at Bangkok Thonburi University, also participated as a speaker.
Mr. Theppratanporn Thongklang provided insights into the tax system and trade and investment dynamics between Thailand and Indonesia. He referenced a notable case involving cooperation in prosecuting criminal activities related to the export of cigarettes from Indonesia to Thailand. The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) uncovered false tax declarations during their investigation into these imports, leading to legal proceedings in Thai courts. This "false tax declaration" case involved Philip Morris Indonesia, where Mr. Theppratanporn Thongklang represented the country as a public prosecutor.
The Indonesian representative highlighted the seminar's objective of facilitating knowledge exchange and best practices for collaborative efforts, aiming to resolve international disputes through negotiation and discussion.
After the seminar, participants toured several faculties, including the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Engineering. The visit provided participants and students from both universities with a deeper understanding of the trade and tax systems of both countries. Additionally, it showcased Bangkok Thonburi University's internationally recognized teaching standards, underscoring its potential as a hub for knowledge exchange within the ASEAN community.
