Bangkok: The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has released images of the newly renovated Green Bridge, which connects Benjakitti Park and Lumpini Park. Designed with Universal Design and eliminating stairs, the bridge is set to enhance the experience for walkers, runners, and cyclists. Additionally, the new Lumpini Dog Park is scheduled to open on February 7, 2026.
According to Thai News Agency, Bangkok Governor Chatchart Sittipunt detailed the Green Bridge's span of approximately 1,600 meters from Ratchadaphisek Road to Sarasin Intersection, linking two major parks into a combined area of around 810 rai. Originally, the bridge's numerous stairs posed challenges for wheelchair users, cyclists, and runners. The redesigned structure now features Universal Design elements such as ramps, seating areas, and planted trees along the route.
The project faced challenges due to the difficulty in transporting materials to the site without road access, but significant progress has been made, with only landscaping improvements remaining. The completion of tree planting and lighting installation is expected by May 2026. The Bangkok Governor has urged contractors to carefully install the lighting system to prevent wire theft and emphasized the need for community effort to maintain the cleanliness of the walkways and bicycle paths, which use a non-slip Sport Surface material.
Mr. Chatchart also addressed modifications to the bridge's original exit point on the Lumpini Park side, which now offers a direct connection from the bridge into the park. This change follows the demolition of a badminton court building within the park. Enhancements within the park include the construction of a 2-rai Lumpini Dog Park, inspired by Japanese garden style, located near the parking lot on Witthayu Road. This initiative is a collaboration between the BMA and the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Bangkok, aimed at transforming Lumpini Park into a recreational space for both people and their pets.
The governor noted that Lumpini Dog Park is nearing completion, with minor landscaping tasks pending, and is slated to open on February 7, 2026. The park will be fenced, allowing dogs to roam freely without leashes, and will be divided into zones for large and small dogs. Consultations with Japanese experts will help establish regulations to ensure the safety of all users, including dogs and their owners.
