Bangkok: Bhumjaithai recently launched "Thai Sang Thai - A New Alternative" as a prospective candidate to join the government, backing Anutin Charnvirakul for Prime Minister. Meanwhile, Chaiyanok Chidchob did not clarify the involvement of the Kla Tham Party, pending official confirmation.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Rachen Trakulwiang, leader of the New Alternative Party, visited the Bhumjaithai Party headquarters with key figures like Mr. Chavalit Wichayasut and Mr. Udomdej Rattanasathien from the Thai Sang Thai Party. They engaged in discussions with Bhumjaithai's Mr. Songsak Thongsri and Mr. Sirapop Duangsodsri about joining the government.
Mr. Chaiyanok Chidchob and Ms. Nan Bunthida Somchai provided an update on government formation, noting that Mr. Songsak had reached out to both Thai Sang Thai and New Alternative Parties to collaborate in selecting the Prime Minister.
Mr. Udomdej mentioned being approached by Mr. Songsak, whom he knows from the Group of 16, to address urgent issues like economic and border security. He emphasized the need for a robust government and expressed readiness to support the majority party once votes are finalized. This stance was shared at the press conference after discussions with senior party members.
Mr. Rachen expressed his commitment to majority rule in elections and indicated support for Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul as Prime Minister, despite the New Alternative Party holding only one seat.
Ms. Nan Bunthida Somchai addressed the potential for more parties to join the coalition, indicating regular press conferences will be held. Another is scheduled for tomorrow.
Mr. Chaiyanok also commented on rumors about Kla Tham Party's involvement, stating that discussions with Mr. Pai Lik were brief and further talks are needed. Initial discussions between Mr. Anutin and Ms. Narumon Pinyosinwat of the Kla Tham Party have occurred, but a conclusion is awaited. The Kla Tham Party is set for an internal meeting soon.
No conditions have been set by any political party, according to Mr. Chaiyanok, who requested patience for a final decision. The current government holds 286 votes, distributed among several parties, with the potential addition of 58 votes if the Kla Tham Party joins.
