Buriram Farmers Urgently Harvest Cassava Amid Border Tensions

Buriram: Farmers in Chanthaburi province, Ban Kruat district, Buriram province, situated along the Thai-Cambodian border, are facing challenges due to recent cross-border fighting. Several Cambodian artillery shells have landed in the region's rubber and cassava plantations, prompting farmers to expedite their harvesting activities. They are tapping rubber and harvesting cassava to secure family income and prepare financially for the possibility of a third round of fighting that may force them to evacuate.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Jintana, a local cassava farmer, expressed uncertainty about the situation and the potential for further clashes. Despite her fear of unexploded artillery shells in the area, she is determined to harvest her crops to ensure financial stability for her family. Ms. Jintana hopes that any future conflicts will be resolved quickly to alleviate the suffering of villagers living near the border.
