Bangkok: The Bus Terminal (BKS) announced today the commencement of advance ticket bookings for the upcoming Songkran festival, revealing a significant 30% increase in demand. Mr. Atthawit Rakchamroon, Managing Director of BKS, emphasized the company's preparedness to accommodate the large number of travelers planning to return to their hometowns during the festival in 2026.
According to Thai News Agency, BKS has made advance ticket bookings available both online and at counters across the country. This move aims to address the common issue of sold-out tickets and prevent passengers from being left stranded. Current booking statistics show a nationwide increase of over 30%, with peak booking volume anticipated in March following the announcement of public holidays. Presently, passenger numbers average between 80,000 and 90,000 daily.
In response to safety concerns, the Bus Terminal Authority (BTA) has introduced stricter safety measures. These include comprehensive checks of buses and their equipment before each departure. Ensuring the well-being of passengers, drivers are required to be well-rested and have "zero" results in drug and alcohol tests. Additionally, a "two drivers" policy has been implemented for long-distance routes exceeding six hours, with speed limits enforced at a maximum of 90 km/h to enhance passenger safety during the festive season.
