Cabinet Approves Draft Royal Decree to Adjourn Extraordinary Parliamentary Session

Bangkok: The Cabinet has granted approval for a draft Royal Decree to close the extraordinary session of Parliament, as proposed by the Cabinet Secretariat. This decree will be submitted to His Majesty the King for royal assent, along with the draft announcement convening the extraordinary session of Parliament, which the Senate will also submit for promulgation.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Airin Phanrit, the Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, disclosed that the draft Royal Decree was in line with the provisions of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand. This move follows the Senate's notification of the necessity to convene an extraordinary session to consider appointments for several key positions, including two Election Commissioners, one Ombudsman, and one Auditor General, as per the relevant sections of the Constitution.

The President of the Senate will be responsible for submitting the draft announcement for the extraordinary session, scheduled to commence on February 26, 2026, to His Majesty the King. The announcement deemed it appropriate to adjourn the session by February 27, 2026. The Prime Minister will then present the draft Royal Decree for the adjournment to His Majesty the King, in accordance with the Constitution.

The draft royal decree has undergone review and formatting by the Council of State, ensuring it aligns with the constitutional requirements for convening and closing parliamentary sessions. This process mirrors previous instances, such as the replacement of members in the Election Commission and the National Anti-Corruption Commission, which also involved similar procedures in 2025.
