Bangkok: The Cabinet approved the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) to lease or grant rights to real estate and develop multi-purpose buildings and plazas along the Orange Line (Thailand Cultural Centre - Min Buri (Suwinthawong)), as well as access points to the maintenance depots of the MRT Chalerm Ratchamongkol and Chalong Ratchatham lines, totaling 56 properties with a value exceeding ten million baht.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Ploytalay Laksmisangchan, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, revealed the Cabinet's approval in principle, facilitating the MRTA to lease or grant rights to real estate. The initiative aims to develop multi-purpose buildings and areas along the Orange Line, areas along the railway line, and the entrances and exits to the maintenance depots of the MRT Blue Line and the MRT Purple Line. This development is expected to enhance facilities for the public and MRT users, promoting familiarity with the MRT system through amenities such as ATMs, vending machines, shops, telecommunication services, advertising, public relations, activity areas, and recreational spaces.
The Mass Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) has prepared a master plan for real estate development, targeting properties with values exceeding ten million baht. The plan aims to provide facilities for electric train users, increase revenue, reduce government subsidy burdens, support an increase in electric train users, and maximize real estate utility. The development areas are categorized into four groups: (1) buildings connecting the electric train system and multi-purpose buildings of the MRT Chalerm Ratchamongkol Line; (2) areas along the line and entrances/exits to MRT Chalerm Ratchamongkol and Chalong Ratchatham maintenance depots; (3) stations and maintenance depots on the MRT Chalong Ratchatham line; and (4) buildings and multi-purpose areas of the Orange Line project.
The 56 locations to be leased or licensed cover a combined area of 117,199.16 square meters. This includes 17 locations for the Orange Line MRT Project, totaling 22,687.04 square meters; 34 locations along the MRT Chalerm Ratchamongkol Line with 44,419.20 square meters; and 5 locations along the MRT Chalong Ratchatham Line, covering 50,092.92 square meters.
The MRTA has yet to determine the lease term for each area, with further decisions to be made following the Cabinet's resolution approval.
