Cabinet Encourages Public to Conserve Energy by Ditching Suits and Reducing Air Conditioning

Bangkok: The Cabinet has called on the public to actively participate in energy conservation efforts by adopting measures such as "taking off suits and reducing air conditioning usage," aiming to set a nationwide example. Deputy Prime Minister Sophon Saram, during a cabinet meeting, emphasized the importance of this initiative as a symbolic gesture to raise awareness about electricity and energy conservation.

According to Thai News Agency, Sophon Saram highlighted that the Cabinet's actions are intended to demonstrate the importance of reducing air conditioning usage and foregoing suits as part of a broader campaign to conserve energy. He stressed the need for genuine cooperation from the public, stating that sustainable action is crucial for reducing electricity consumption, as changes cannot be achieved overnight. Sophon also expressed his support for the work-from-home initiative, which aligns with the broader goal of energy conservation.

Addressing concerns about the use of government vehicles, Sophon mentioned that he only uses one car and was unaware of the vehicle usage by others in the convoy.

In addition, Minister of Culture Sabida Thaiseth explained that her decision to forgo a suit was influenced by Thailand's climate. She urged the public to conserve energy during this period, framing it as a significant way to support the nation. Sabida reiterated that the Cabinet is committed to setting an example for the public in this regard.
