Cell Broadcast Alarm System Test Conducted Nationwide

Bangkok: Don't panic, this is just a test of the Cell Broadcast alarm system. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation is conducting a test of its disaster warning system via cell broadcast to mobile phones across the nation, involving all three major network providers: National Telecommunications Public Company Limited, True Corporation Public Company Limited, and Advanced Info Service Public Company Limited.

According to Thai News Agency, the test is scheduled for Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at 2:00 PM. The warning will feature a loud sound lasting for 8 seconds, followed by a pop-up message on the screen stating, "This is a test alert, not a real situation. It's from the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM). Please do not panic." The message will emphasize that no action is required from the recipients.

The cell broadcast notifications are supported by iOS version 18 and above, as well as Android version 11 and above. However, individuals who have their devices turned off, in airplane mode, using Wi-Fi only, connected to a 2G/3G network, or whose devices do not support Cell Broadcast notifications will not receive the test alert. Additionally, those located outside the test area will also not receive the notification.
