China Reaffirms Commitment to Mediate Peace Between Thailand and Cambodia

Yuxi: China reiterated its readiness to facilitate peace between Thailand and Cambodia during a meeting between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeo in Yuxi, Yunnan Province. Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, assured Thailand of China's commitment to restoring peace and extending humanitarian aid to both countries.

According to Thai News Agency, Wang emphasized China's desire to see Thailand and Cambodia resolve their conflicts amicably, expressing confidence in their ability to overcome obstacles through open communication. He affirmed China's support for ASEAN's peacekeeping role and willingness to assist ASEAN observers in monitoring the ceasefire.

Mr. Sihasak commended China's proactive mediation efforts, noting the recent ceasefire agreement between Thailand and Cambodia as a positive step towards lasting peace. He reiterated Thailand's commitment to non-violence in resolving disputes and emphasized the importance of bilateral communication with Cambodia to rebuild trust and improve relations.

In terms of China-Thailand relations, Wang conveyed New Year greetings from Chinese President Xi Jinping to His Majesty King Vajiralongkorn and highlighted the upcoming 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. He acknowledged Thailand's adherence to the one-China principle and opposition to Taiwanese independence, underscoring the importance of this stance in fostering bilateral ties.

Mr. Sihasak affirmed the deepening strategic partnership between Thailand and China, which has significantly contributed to regional peace and stability. He reaffirmed Thailand's commitment to the One China policy, emphasizing the long-standing and growing cooperation between the two countries.
