Chonnapat Receives MP Certification Amidst Ongoing Legal Case

Bangkok: Mr. Chonnapat Naksua, a Member of Parliament for Songkhla Constituency 4 from the Kla Tham Party, has officially received his certification as an MP despite being involved in a legal case. He expressed confidence that the case would not hinder the government's formation process and remained optimistic about the ongoing relationship between the Kla Tham and Bhumjaithai parties, while awaiting guidance from senior party members.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chonnapat visited the Election Commission office to collect his election certificate. He plans to report to the Secretariat of the House of Representatives today, as he is unable to attend a scheduled engagement on March 2nd, 2026. Emphasizing his commitment to his constituency, he highlighted his work ethic as a key strength, noting that the people had entrusted his party with another term.

Mr. Chonnapat expressed readiness to engage with the judicial process and pledged full cooperation with ongoing investigations. He acknowledged that public figures are subject to scrutiny and has prepared evidence to prove his innocence. The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) is currently handling the case, and he is prepared to clarify any issues. With encouragement from Captain Thamanat Phromphao, the party's advisor, Mr. Chonnapat is determined to navigate the legal proceedings.

Addressing concerns about the impact on the Kla Tham Party's image, Mr. Chonnapat stated that they have consistently faced scrutiny during their tenure. His primary concern is the perception of his constituents, rather than external matters.

Responding to questions about the party's potential government participation, Mr. Chonnapat dismissed the notion that he might hinder the Kla Tham Party's involvement. He mentioned his positive relationship with the Bhumjaithai Party, stemming from previous collaborations, and expressed admiration for Mr. Newin Chidchob. He emphasized the need for senior members to deliberate on the matter, but remained hopeful for productive discussions.

Mr. Chonnapat reiterated his belief in the strong ties between senior figures from both parties, forged during past parliamentary sessions. He shared that Captain Thamanat advised him to await the MPs' certification before proceeding with further discussions, as this step is crucial for moving forward with any potential government partnership.

Regarding the impact of not joining the government on his constituency work, Mr. Chonnapat assured that his efforts would remain unaffected. He expressed confidence that all agencies are committed to supporting MPs in serving the public effectively.
