Chulaphan Receives Petition to Push for National Volunteer Rescue Act

Bangkok: "Chulaphan" receives a letter from rescue workers, aiming to push for a draft National Volunteer Rescue Act to upgrade the welfare and security of over 200,000 rescue workers.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chulaphan Amornvivat, leader and prime ministerial candidate of the Pheu Thai Party, addressed the media after a campaign event in Min Buri district. The event was held to support Ms. Kwanjira Meenchainan, the Pheu Thai Party's candidate for Bangkok Constituency 19. During the campaign, Mr. Chulaphan engaged with volunteer rescue workers to understand their challenges and received a petition calling for the establishment of a National Volunteer Rescue Act.

Mr. Chulaphan highlighted the need for a formal legislative framework to support the numerous rescue workers across the country who operate without direct government backing. These individuals are often the first responders to disasters, such as landslides and floods, working under risky conditions, especially at night.

He emphasized the importance of legislation that would provide security in terms of welfare and employment, as well as clarify duties and responsibilities. This would ensure the welfare of rescue workers nationwide, offering them the security they currently lack.

Addressing the future actions of the Pheu Thai Party, Mr. Chulaphan explained that if the party forms a government, their priority would be to legislate protection for the welfare and well-being of rescue workers. He clarified that the call is not for financial aid or subsidies but for proper recognition and authority, such as designating rescue workers as government officials. This designation would empower them in areas where their efforts are currently limited by the absence of official government authority, thereby enhancing their operational efficiency.
