Samut sakhon: Labour Minister Treenuch Thianthong has directed the Social Security Office to urgently assist individuals affected by the crane collapse at the Rama 2 expressway construction site. The incident, which occurred at Highway No. 82, has resulted in both injuries and fatalities, prompting a swift response from authorities to ensure those impacted receive necessary support and benefits.
According to Thai News Agency, the crane collapse took place on January 15, 2026, at 9:15 AM, in Tha Chin Subdistrict, Mueang District, Samut Sakhon Province. The accident led to injuries and the loss of lives, with a field investigation by the Samut Sakhon Provincial Social Security Office confirming that two insured individuals were injured and two others lost their lives. Both deceased individuals were entitled to old-age benefits.
The victims included Mr. Sompong, an insured person under Section 40 and previously under Section 33, who is entitled to an old-age benefit of 6,187.49 baht, and Mr. Sarawut, previously insured under Sections 33 and 39, who is entitled to benefits totaling 50,312.54 baht. The injured individuals are Ms. Seeprai, who sustained minor injuries and is receiving treatment at Jesada Hospital, and Mr. Naing Oo, who suffered a fractured left rib and is in stable condition at Mahachai 1 Hospital.
Ms. Kanjana Poolkaew, Secretary-General of the Social Security Office, detailed the benefits from the Workers' Compensation Fund for work-related injuries. These benefits cover medical expenses ranging from 65,000 to 1,000,000 baht, depending on the severity of the injury. Additionally, insured individuals can receive compensation for lost income at a rate of 70% of their monthly wage for up to one year, along with compensation for loss of limbs or work capacity. In cases of permanent disability, lifelong compensation of 70% of the monthly wage will be provided.
The Secretary-General has tasked Ms. Wanthana Natthapoolwat, Inspector of the Social Security Office, and Ms. Prapawadee Kaewsiripong, Social Security Provincial Director of Samut Sakhon, with visiting and supporting the injured at Jesada 2 Hospital and Mahachai 1 Hospital. They were joined by officials from the Ministry of Labour in Samut Sakhon Province. Efforts are also being made to contact the families of the deceased to inform them of the benefits their heirs are entitled to and to ensure they receive timely and fair assistance.
