Bangkok: The Democrat Party (DP) took proactive steps by visiting 16 riverside communities to address concerns linked to the Chao Phraya Riverside Walkway Development Project, which affects the Bang O, Bang Phlat, and Bang Yi Khan areas. Key figures such as Mr. Ongart Klamphaiboon, advisor to the party leader, Mr. Sakoltee Phatthiyakul, deputy leader in charge of Bangkok, and MP candidate Mr. Jetsarit Lertthanasan, engaged with locals in these districts to understand their issues.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Sakoltee emphasized the importance of the visit to Bang Phlat and Bangkok Noi districts. He mentioned that the meeting involved representatives from all 16 affected communities who are keen on safeguarding the rights of residents impacted by the development project. The representatives expressed their desire to mitigate the adverse effects of the Chao Phraya Riverside Walkway on their lives.
Mr. Sakoltee assured the communities that the Democrat Party is committed to closely observing the situation to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents along the Chao Phraya River. He reiterated that the party prioritizes public interest and aims to prevent unnecessary hardships for the locals.
Mr. Jetsarit highlighted that after earlier discussions with the Bang Phlat area's residents, a coordinated effort with Mr. Sakoltee and Mr. Ongart was made to revisit the communities. The residents initially viewed the walkway project as a positive urban development opportunity but requested that it should not excessively impact their homes.
Mr. Jetsarit further explained that the residents from Bang O, Bang Phlat, and Bang Yi Khan are particularly affected due to the walkway's width, which reaches up to 16 meters in some areas, leading to the disappearance of certain homes. Consequently, the community members are urging relevant agencies and the government to reassess the construction plans to reduce the impact on their residences.
