Democrat Party Pressures Chanonphat to Address Parliament on Shady Funds

Bangkok: The Democrat Party has declared it will not protect illicit businesses and has urged Chonnapat Naksua, an MP from the Kla Tham Party, to clarify the facts to Parliament regarding money laundering and online gambling cases before the vote on extradition for prosecution this Friday.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Pongsakorn Kwanmuang, spokesperson for the Democrat Party, announced the results of the party's MPs meeting, revealing details about the case involving Mr. Chanonphat Naksua. The Parliament is set to vote on his extradition for prosecution, which concerns alleged money laundering and online gambling activities.

Mr. Pongsakorn stated that the purpose of parliamentary immunity is to prevent the executive branch from abusing its power against MPs during sessions. However, due to the public interest in this case involving questionable dealings, the Democrat Party is allowing Mr. Chonnapat the chance to address Parliament. Should he fail to provide a satisfactory explanation, the party is prepared to support the government in pursuing a legal investigation.

Additionally, Mr. Pongsakorn commented on a request from Pol. Gen. Seripisut Temiyaves, leader of the Seri Ruam Thai Party, for Democrat Party MPs to help petition independent organizations to investigate cases related to the Buriram area and parts of the Bhumjaithai Party.

The Democrat Party has expressed its willingness to collaborate on the investigation, emphasizing the need for clarity and thoroughness when submitting matters to independent organizations. They confirmed their coordination with Pol. Gen. Seripisut to carefully review the complaint details and relevant laws, reiterating their commitment to support any investigation conducted in the interest of transparency.
