Bangkok: The Department of Land Transport (DLT) has officially launched the "Taxi Dee Prom" (Ready-to-Use Taxi) project, introducing a new system within the DLT GPS NOTICE application aimed at upgrading public taxi services. The initiative allows passengers to track every route, access driver information instantly, and includes features such as a satisfaction survey and fare calculation system.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Sorapong Paitoonpong, Director-General of the Department of Land Transport, presided over the launch of the 'Taxi Dee Prom' project. The initiative is currently being piloted in Bangkok, which has a total of 78,894 registered taxis. Presently, 8,132 taxis have received the 'Taxi Dee Prom' sticker, and 3,620 drivers are utilizing the application. The project aims to be fully operational by June 2026.
The project includes QR code stickers in three colors: purple for driver identity verification, blue for passengers to check vehicle and driver information and calculate estimated fares, and red for reporting driving behavior and service issues. These stickers are strategically placed on the taxi's exterior and interior windows.
Taxi passengers can download the DLT GPS NOTICE application and scan the QR codes to access vehicle and driver information, including the driver's photo, name, vehicle information, tax expiration date, and driver's license status. Drivers are required to register via the application and scan the vehicle's QR code to confirm their identity before driving. The system will prompt drivers to confirm their identity every four hours.
The Department of Land Transport has urged taxi cooperative operators and drivers to affix the QR code stickers and verify their identity before driving. Non-compliance with these requirements is considered a violation under the Motor Vehicle Act B.E. 2522 (1979) and may result in a fine of up to 1,000 baht.
