Bangkok: Sathit Wongnongteuy, Deputy Leader of the Democrat Party, has dismissed claims made by a popular Facebook page that police are preparing to search his house as a political attack. The post, which implicated 10 politicians, was perceived as an attempt to undermine the party's popularity in the South. Sathit clarified that the party's legal team has already filed a complaint to pursue legal action against those responsible for the false narrative.
According to Thai News Agency, the Facebook page CSI LA posted an urgent message stating that police were ready to search the home of a prominent southern "Deputy Leader of the Blue Party," identified only by the initials "T," allegedly involved in drug trafficking. This sparked speculation that the individual in question was Mr. Chaichana Dechdecho, the party's deputy leader for the southern region. However, Sathit Wongnongteuy revealed that his investigation found no factual basis for these claims, and the story was fabricated. Police in Nakhon Si Thammarat province arrested a suspect in a drug trafficking case who shares the Dechdecho surname, but the suspect confirmed no connection to Mr. Chaichana beyond the shared surname. Wongnongteuy emphasized that the false information was combined with another story about 10 politicians, leading to the misleading suggestion of a search at the deputy leader's home.
Sathit Wongnongteuy further noted that Mr. Chaichana's legal team is set to file a complaint against those who intentionally caused damage. He reiterated that the matter is entirely political, with some parties possibly creating misunderstandings to impact votes negatively in the southern region. The Democrat Party remains committed to honest politics and assures that any party member found involved in misconduct will not be tolerated.
