Dissolution Process of Funeral Associations Clarified by Deputy Government Spokesperson

Bangkok: Deputy Government Spokesperson Airin Phanrit has clarified the process of dissolving funeral associations, emphasizing that approval and a dissolution order must be obtained from the local registrar. She reassured the public that the dissolution of these associations will not impact the remaining 3,839 associations operating across the country. According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, Ms. Airin, addressed concerns arising from online discussions regarding the dissolution of funeral assistance associations. These associations, which are non-profit groups aimed at providing support for funerals and assisting families of deceased members, are subject to registration and dissolution by the local registrar. Ms. Airin explained that the process involves posting a dissolution order at the association office, which is then communicated to the central registrar. The central registrar, who is the Director-General of the Department of Women and Family Affairs, issues a notice of dissolution, which is published in the Royal Gazette and communicated back to the local administrative organization to notify the public. Ms. Airin further elaborated on the legal grounds for dissolving a funeral benefit association, as stipulated by the Funeral Benefit Association Act B.E. 2545 (2002). The Act outlines three scenarios: a resolution by the general assembly, an order from the local registrar due to issues such as fraudulent conduct or unsustainable operations, and a court order under certain circumstances. If the local registrar fails to act under Section 52 of the Act, an interested party can request the court to order the dissolution. Ms. Airin assured citizens that with over 4,874 funeral service associations nationwide, the current operations of the 3,839 associations remain unaffected. She urged the public not to worry, as the dissolution process is carefully managed and will not impact other associations.
