Chiang mai: Freezing cold weather gripped Thailand, particularly in the North and Northeast. Doi Inthanon recorded 0 degrees Celsius this morning, resulting in the first frost of the year. The Northeast also saw frost in Loei province, and those camping in the mountains were not disappointed, with thick fog this morning as well.
According to Thai News Agency, this morning, temperatures in northern Thailand dropped further, particularly at the Kew Mae Pan viewpoint and the summit of Doi Inthanon in Chiang Mai, the highest point in the country, where temperatures dropped to 0 degrees Celsius for the first time. The temperature at ground level was as low as -1.2 degrees Celsius, causing frost to form on the grass and on the roofs of parked cars, creating excitement among tourists who eagerly took photos to share on social media.
In the high mountains, villagers shivered from the cold, dressing in warm clothing and lighting fires to keep warm. They also sat in the sun in front of their houses in the late morning to alleviate the chill. Meanwhile, on major roads such as the Chiang Mai-Lampang route, dense fog was present in some areas, reducing visibility to less than 20 meters, forcing drivers to turn on their headlights for safety.
At Na Thon Camp View in Na Haew District, Loei Province, tourists who climbed the mountain to enjoy the cold weather this morning were not disappointed. Even though the temperature was 6 degrees Celsius, tourists were still able to see a sea of fog, comparable to tourist attractions in other provinces. Similarly, at Ban Hin So in Phu Ruea District and the wildlife sanctuary, nature lovers were not disappointed either, as the cold 3-degree Celsius weather caused frost to form on the grass, haystacks, and leaves, creating a spectacular sight for visitors.
