Bangkok: Dr. Jetsada has issued a stern warning to the Election Commission, highlighting the risk of the election being invalidated and urging them to provide an answer.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jetsada Tonawanik, the Rak Chart Party's prime ministerial candidate, criticized the Election Commission's handling of the election, pointing out issues with its management and sudden changes, particularly concerning the ballot papers, which lacked clear explanations. He cautioned that continued misuse of authority by the commission could lead to imprisonment. Mr. Jetsada noted that the current Election Commission is unusually diligent in modifying details, such as the ballot paper format, but has failed to offer adequate explanations to the public.
Mr. Jetsada emphasized the importance of clear communication from the commission, suggesting that if they had explained from the start the different types of ballot papers and their purposes, confusion could have been avoided. He expressed concerns about the commission's inconsistent explanations regarding changes to the ballot papers.
He further revealed the legal risks if the Election Commission fails to address allegations of violating citizens' rights and freedoms, which could result in lawsuits declaring the election invalid. This would not only dismantle a few by-elections but the entire electoral system in place.
Mr. Jetsada urged the Election Commission to provide clear, simple answers to lead the nation out of the current political turmoil and towards elections recognized on an international level. He stressed the necessity for explanations that are easily understood, even by children, regarding discrepancies in ballot papers to prevent invalidation of election results.
