Manila: Survivors of the earthquake in the Philippines are pleading for help. Many residents in southern the Philippines have been left homeless and are struggling without food, water, or shelter after a powerful earthquake. Severely damaged transportation routes remain a major obstacle preventing relief teams from reaching the most affected communities.
According to Thai News Agency, the 7.8 magnitude earthquake triggered landslides, causing houses to collapse and blocking roads throughout Sarangani province. Many survivors are trapped in the rubble, forced to fend for themselves. Drone footage shows excavators clearing debris from blocked roads, while residents scour their homes for any surviving possessions.
The disaster, which triggered tsunami warnings in several countries, occurred in the early hours of Monday morning, centered about 20 kilometers off the coast of Sarangani province. The tremors were felt strongly throughout Mindanao Island and spread as far as Indonesia. The National Disaster Management Agency has since revised the death toll to 45, with the number of missing rising to 17.
