Election Commission of Thailand Issues Guidelines for Advance Voting in Parliamentary Elections

Bangkok: Important information has been released by the Election Commission of Thailand regarding advance voting for Members of Parliament outside the constituency. The advance voting is scheduled for Sunday, February 1, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. These guidelines are crucial for voters looking to cast their votes before the official Election Day at central polling stations located both within and outside their electoral districts.

According to Thai News Agency, the Election Commission has provided a sample of the ballot envelope (Form S.S. 5/2) to be used for advance voting. The polling station committee is responsible for inscribing the province name, constituency name, and constituency code on this envelope before it is handed back to voters along with their identification documents. It is imperative for voters to verify that the information on the ballot envelope matches their registration details. Any discrepancies should be immediately reported to the polling station committee for correction.

Voters are encouraged to thoroughly check their eligibility and polling station location prior to entering the polling booth for parliamentary elections and referendums. This can be done by entering their 13-digit national identification number on the Bureau of Registration Administration website or by scanning a QR code. Additionally, the Smart Vote application can be utilized for checking eligibility for the 2026 election.

For voter identification on election day, the National ID card, even if expired, will be accepted. Other acceptable documents include any official card or document issued by a government agency containing a photograph and the 13-digit national identification number, provided they are not expired. Online submissions can be made via the ThaiD application, DLT QR License Application, or Disability Card Application, but screen recordings are not permitted.

Furthermore, the Election Commission of Thailand has established guidelines for election campaigning on advance voting day. From January 31, 2026, at 6:00 PM to February 1, 2026, at 6:00 PM, there is a prohibition on the sale, distribution, or serving of alcoholic beverages. On February 1, 2026, candidates and their affiliates are also restricted from distributing campaign materials or using vehicles with campaign signs, loudspeakers, or holding rallies near polling stations.
