Election Commission of Thailand Issues Strict Guidelines Against Pre-Voting Campaigning

Bangkok: The Election Commission of Thailand (ECT) has cautioned candidates and political parties about engaging in campaigning activities before the advance voting day. The ECT's warning, issued on January 29th, specifically targets campaigning near central polling stations where advance voting for Members of Parliament will occur this Sunday. Additionally, the sale, distribution, and dispensing of alcohol on that day is strictly prohibited.

According to Thai News Agency, the ECT laid out clear guidelines for campaigning restrictions related to the upcoming parliamentary elections. From January 31st, 2026, at 6:00 PM to February 1st, 2026, at 6:00 PM, candidates, political parties, campaign assistants, and any other individuals are barred from selling, distributing, or serving alcoholic beverages. This prohibition aligns with Section 147 of the Organic Law on the Election of Members of Parliament.

Furthermore, on February 1st, all forms of election campaigning are forbidden at or near central polling stations. This includes the distribution of election campaign materials or videos, the use of vehicles with campaign signs, the use of loudspeakers for campaigning purposes, and organizing campaign rallies. These activities are prohibited as per the Election Commission's regulations, Article 5, which outlines restricted activities in parliamentary election campaigning at central polling stations on the day before the general election.
