Chonburi: The Election Commission of Thailand (ECT) has decided against recounting votes in Constituency 1, Chonburi, despite multiple complaints. The ECT confirmed that there was no evidence of vote counting irregularities in this district. Instead, the commission has resolved to conduct re-elections in three polling units across Bangkok, Nan, and Udon Thani on February 22, 2026.
According to Thai News Agency, the re-elections will take place in Bangkok's Constituency 15, Kannayao, polling station 9, covering all three categories: constituency MPs, party-list MPs, and the referendum. In Nan, re-elections will be held for constituency MPs in Constituency 1, polling station 3, and in Udon Thani, Constituency 6, polling station 4, specifically for party-list MPs. The commission has also mandated the replacement of polling station officials in these areas.
In Pathum Thani Constituency 7, a recount has been ordered for votes cast outside the constituency and abroad, although the date for this recount has not been established yet. Meanwhile, in Maha Sarakham, Constituency 1, a recount was not pursued following complaints about incorrect ballot signage.
In Chonburi Constituency 1, the decision against a recount was made despite ten complaints concerning a power outage during vote counting, discrepancies between voter numbers and ballots cast, and incorrect ballot readings. An investigation led by the Deputy Secretary-General found no irregularities. The investigation noted that ballot boxes were temporarily moved for convenience, and no evidence of incorrect counting was discovered.
Mr. Narong Klanwarin, Chairman of the Election Commission, emphasized that the EC remains vigilant and has thoroughly investigated all complaints, ensuring that the election process is honest and fair. He assured that all legal proceedings are being followed diligently and that the EC is committed to maintaining election credibility. The commission is transparent in its processes, disclosing information to the public, and leaves it to the public to assess the integrity of the election proceedings.
